Grab Dredger No 2

Grab Dredger No. 2 was commissioned in April 1931 to work close to the quay walls and in places the suction dredger could not reach. the silt dredged up in the grab was loaded onto a hopper, which carried it out to sea for dumping two and a half miles south east of the harbour entrance. The grab dredger and the barge both had a capacity of 290 tons of dredged material. The Priestman crane could drop the grab to a depth of 42 feet.
