Arthur Taylor
Arthur Taylor is first listed in the Aberdeen Directories for 1881/1882 as a sculptor at 68 Nelson Street. In 1882/1883 he is listed as at "Jute and Froghall Street", continuing until 1888/1889 when he becomes listed as a "Sculptor and Stonecutter" at Jute Street alone. Around 1896 he opens a "showyard" on King Street, which continues to be listed until about 1920 when it is presumably closed. The business is last listed in the Aberdeen Directory for 1955/1956, when it presumably closed.
Although associated with some important works within Aberdeen and elsewhere, there are no known surviving business records at present.
Arthur Taylor's yard is credited as having been the first yard in Aberdeen to use pneumatic tools, to carve the lions at the base of the statue to Hygea in Duthie Park. These tools were later presented to the Mechanics Society but their present location is unknown.
