Commenced apprenticeship as Shipwright at Alexander Hall & Co. Ltd. on 5 August 1907.

Entered Shipyard Drawing Office on 5 January 1912.

Appointed as Chief Draughtsman in March 1915.

Appointed as Shipyard Manager in November 1926.

Appointed as General Manager in March 1934.

Appointed as Managing Director in March 1943.

Became member of the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights and a Freeman of London in July 1943.

Awarded M.B.E. and became member of the Institute of Naval Architects in 1944.

Appointed as Chairman of the Board in October 1953.

Appointed as Director of Hall, Russell & Co. Ltd. in January 1954.
