James J. Lowriedied 1992
James J. Lowrie died on the 24th July 1992. He suffered from the effects of polio from childhood but this did not deter him from becoming a keen cyclist who right up until the early 1980s cycled the length and breadth of Scotland becoming a well-known face in many of Scotland's youth hostels. He got his first bike about 1922 at a time when many young people were trying to escape the confines of the city but could not afford a motor car. He was a founding member of the Aberdeen Wheelers Club and later in life established himself as a competitor in the Stoke Mandeville games for the disabled.
