Andrew Horne Snr was born in Kincardine on Forth, Fife on 14 April 1864.

He trained as a paper maker (two of his brothers and a sister were also involved in papermaking) and at soem point went to work in one of the paper mills in Maidstone, Kent. He was working in Maidstone 1891 when he got married and was still there in September 1892 when their first daughter was born.

About 1893 he moved to the Donside Paper Mill in Aberdeen and lived in Woodise. He subsequently became foreman paper maker (about 1901) and was later promoted to mill manager. He retired in 1927 when the mill was sold by Becker & Co. to the Inveresk Group.

He died on 20 Feburary 1959, aged 94.
