Andrew Walker was born in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1959. His father was a marine engineer who spent most of his working life at sea. walker's grandfather was a trawler skipper who owned several boats sailing out of Aberdeen. Prior to that Walker's ancestors can be traced back through many generations of fisherfolk living in and around the small fishing village of Collieston, south of Peterhead.

Walker attended Edinburgh College of Art from 1977 -81, graduating with a BAHons in Fine Art.

He has had more than twenty solo exhibitions since then including;

Riverside Studios, London; The Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh; Aberdeen Arts Centre; Cambridge Contemporary Art and Cyril Gerber Fine Art, Glasgow.

His work is held in numerous private collections around the world and public collections including: Edinburgh City Art Gallery; Aberdeen City Art Gallery; The Highland Council; The Contemporary Art Society and Scottish Borders Council.

In 2012 he held a large solo exhibition in Paris.

Since 2010 he has been working mainly in Cornwall making several visits each year while maintaining a studio in Edinburgh. More recently Walker has spent two years living and painting in South West Cornwall where he had a studio beside the busy fishing port of Newlyn.
