About MeBelonged to one William Brand (he lived at Tarves and was at one time employed on the Haddo estate) who had been originally a blacksmith to trade but due to head wounds received in World War 1 had to look for alternative employment. He set himself in business in Marywell Street Aberdeen as an upholsterer.
Additional InfoWilliam John Brand (1893-1962) was born in Tarves, Aberdeenshire and was George Brand’s second son. William is recorded in the 1911 Census aged 18 as an Ironmonger and living at 5 Chattan Place with his parents. He becomes an Apprentice Blacksmith working for A. S. Gunn at 97 Holburn Street. He joined WW1 as a Private in the 1st/4th Gordon Highlanders, was wounded by shrapnel on the head and leg while fighting at the front and is sent to the Duchess George of Russian Hospital, Harrogate to recover. (Aberdeen Weekly Journal 9 July 1915). In 1925 he married Mary Falconer Philip and the couple live with his parents at 8 Portland Place until George dies in 1932. By 1934-35 they have moved home to 51 Rose Street and William has taken over the business at 36 Marywell Street.(Aberdeen Directory). In 1940-41 William moves home to 16 Morningside Terrace, Aberdeen. (Aberdeen Directory) and in 1985 he dies aged 92 (Statutory Death Records).
