Younger sister of Tessa Dahl, Theo Dahl and Ophelia Dahl. Her older sister, Olivia Twenty Dahl (b. April 20, 1955 - d. November 17, 1962), died from complications of the measles at the age of seven (before Lucy was born).

Her mother, actress Patricia Neal, was pregnant with her when she suffered a stroke in February 1965, and was in a coma for 21 days. Her father, author Roald Dahl, designed rehabilitation techniques for his wife, which restored her to full function. Lucy was born a healthy, normal baby.
