Royal Doulton

Artist Info
Royal DoultonLondon, England, founded 1815

Originally founded in 1815, Doulton moved to Lambeth, London, in 1828. The pottery began making artistic stoneware in the 1860s, principally to revive medieval salt glaze techniques. At Lambeth a workshop was established enabling students from the nearby School of Art to decorate wares. Florence Barlow, along with her sister Hannah, were among a number of decorators working there from the 1870s onwards. Most of Florence's work involved executing precise incised designs of birds on stoneware pots.
