The Second St Sunniva was built at the Hall Russell Shipyard in 1931, a year after the first St Sunniva was lost. She operated on the the direct service between Leith and Lerwick, via Aberdeen. In 1939, she was commandeered by the Admiralty. She was eventually lost in 1943 while serving as a rescue ship with a transatlantic convoy; there were no survivors.
