Elizabeth Crombie Duthie, daughter of Alexander Duthie. Her family was a member of the wealthy family of merchants, ship owners and ship builders. Inherited considerable sums from uncle, Walter, and brother, Alexander, who had both been in the legal profession. In their memory, wanted to invest the money for the benefit of people of Aberdeen including Duthie Park. Duthie-built ships were involved in the plantation trade.
