DescriptionAn archaeological walkover survey, evaluation and building recorded were carried out by ACC Archaeological Unit in 2008 ahead of proposed development. No new features were identified during walkover survey in September - October 2008. A standing building survey of Findlay Farm undertaken in September 2008 (see NJ91SE0107), recorded at least three phases of development of the buildings. Trial trenching evaluation was carried out in September to October 2008, comprising 84 trenches (approximately 9% of the area). Two areas (trenches A and B) contained features. In trench A these included a group of at least cut features; one shallow pit was excavated and produced three flints. Trench B comprised a large spread of material, 37cm deep. Finds from the excavation included the rim of a grassmarked vessel, possibly dating to the 6th-8th century. A sherd of medieval redware pottery and a lump of slag were found on the upper surface of this feature. A total of 840 flints were recovered form the excavation and fieldwalking, many clustered around Trench A. Evaluation revealed probably bronze age pits, post holes and flints. Investigation of the site of Findlay Croft (NJ91SE0081) recorded no evidence of the croft. A watching brief was carried out by Cameron Archaeology between December 2012 and November 2014 on soil stripping for plots 1-12. A number of prehistoric features containing pottery and flints were recorded but they had been subject to agricultural damage, from both extensive historic rig and furrow cultivation and more modern ploughing. A watching brief was carried out by Cameron Archaeology in 2012 on soil stripping along the route of a new access track. Ten lithics were recovered from the southernmost part of the route (between circa NJ 95399 12152 and NJ 95408 11978), including a small barbed and tanged arrowhead of early Bronze Age date
