Excavation in 1977 by Aberdeen City Council Archaeological Unit recorded Medieval pits including a cess pit, and a 17th - 18th Century metal workshop. The excavation revealed that medieval activity on this site had been almost totally destroyed by scarping and by later intrusive features, but evidence of the later development of the site survived. In the 17th century a small workshop, possibly a smithy, was constructed. At a later stage, gravel quarrying took place; finally, the area was cleared and became a yard attached to an early 18th-century mansion. The finds from this site are in the collections of Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums.
