Bankrupcy case
Mr. M. Smith, in opening the case, said that the plaintiff, Mr. Joseph Sage, was the assignee of Joseph Gwyer Lovell, the who had, been made bankrupt. He was a merchant in the African trade, carrying on business in this city, [...]
In October 1861 the ORIBE was lost. Messrs. Ames, Bush, and Company had the security of that vessel for the goods that they had supplied and the vessel having been lost the underwriters paid the insurance money, and Messrs. Ames, Bush, and Company received £2000. That reduced their credit against Mr. Lovell to £3064.
(Bristol Mercury)
Note: Contract cost, £4615 or £18 10s. per ton (Builder's List held in the Lloyd's Library of the Aberdeen Maritime Museum)
The Lloyd's listing continues to 1863, and the loss coming from Quebec is incosistent with it being 'in the African trade' but the timing fits and there was no other ORIBE in the 1860 register.
