"Sunderland - Aug. 11: This day, a seizure of a few pounds of contraband tobacco was made by Mr. Robert Pope, tide-surveyor of Customs, on board of the brig ELIZABETH, Greig, of Aberdeen, from Hamburg. Wm. Robertoson, one of the crew, admitted that the tobacco had been concealed by him; he was taken before the magistrates, and fined in the penalty of 50s, which was paid."
