About MeFrom 1871 to 1882, the Potters rented Dalguise House as a summer retreat, where Beatrix Potter (1866 - 1943), author and illustrator of children's books such as The Tale of Peter Rabbit spent some of her happiest childhood days. Her parents frequently entertained family and friends, including the painter Millais (1829 96), and Liberal politician John Bright (1811 89), the barrister Sir Henry James (1828 1911) and the actress Lillie Langtry. Beatrix Potter wrote, in 1884, of her stays at Dalguise House near Dunkeld: "...oh it was always beautiful, home sweet home, I knew nothing of trouble then!"
