General History:
28/04/1841:
LAUNCH - There was launched, on Monday last, from the building-yard of Bowman, Vernon, & Co., an Iron Clipper Schooner, "The WILLIAM HOGARTH," of about 170 tons register, designed for the London trade. By the best of judges her model has been very much admired, and it is expected she will sail very fast. She is divided into three water tight compartments, which add much to the strength and safety of the vessel. A part of the middle compartment is so arranged as to form a ballast water tank, which can, at any time, be filled with goods when ballast is not required. We trust she will fully realize the anticipations of her spirited owners.

21/07/1847:
2 large blocks granite (7 tons) for Sir Walter Scott's tombstone were landed at Leith by WILLIAM HOGARTH, schooner, from Aberdeen.

19/11/1851:
Aberdeen, Leith and Clyde Shipping Co. - Well known and remarkably fast sailing clipper schooner WILLIAM HOGARTH sails regularly between Aberdeen and Lerwick, carrying Her Majesty's Shetland mails and remaining 36 hours at each end. Has excellent accommodation for passengers and large storage for goods and livestock.

25/02/1852:
We learn that the brig "MARGARET RITCHIE” Capt. Main, of this port, sailed from London, in ballast, for Shields, so long ago as the 7th January, and has not since been heard of. It will be remembered that the last violent storm occurred on the 9th of the same month [...] The mail schooner "WILLIAM HOGARTH" likewise of this port, sailed also the same date, from Aberdeen, for Shetland, and no accounts of her have yet been received.
