About MeThis wonderfully free and joyous watercolour dates from Gear's COBRA period. It is an unusual work for Gear which links COBRA and European art with the St Ives group.

In this painting Gear combines his very personal grid patterns - which were inspired by the bare trees, mine heads and Forth Rail Bride of his youth in Fife - with a liquid, translucent depiction of the sea and boats in the harbour of St Ives in Cornwall.
