About MeThomas Mitchell Morris (1821– 1908) was one of the pioneers of professional golf. He was born and lived in St Andrews, where he worked as a greenkeeper, clubmaker and course designer, as well as playing tournament golf. Morris designed many famous courses across the British Isles, including Muirfield, Prestwick, Carnoustie, Moray, Warkworth in Northumberland, Askernish links in South Uist and Rosapenna links in Ireland.Reid painted his half length portrait for St Andrew's Golf Club in 1902. It was exhibited in the New Gallery in 1903 and at the Royal Scottish Academy in 1906.
