About MePorcelain teapot with a pattern based on Chinese imagery, in ironstone red, cobalt blue and green overglaze enamels. The Jabberwocky pattern featuring an exotic bird-like creature with magnificent tail was derived from Chinese porcelain. The name, which became current in the 19th century, was from Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking Glass.
More About Me
The name of this lovely teapot must have been adopted considerably later than its date of production because "Jabberwocky" is a nonsense poem first published by Lewis Carroll in 1871.
