About MeImari porcelain was exported in large quantities from the Japanese port of the same name.

It was made specifically for the European market in the nearby city of Arita on the island of Kyushu.

It is characterised by rich under-glaze blue decoration and iron-red and gold enamels, contrasting with the clear white ground.
