(from 1850 GEM is in Lloyd's as owned by Best & Co. but in Aberdeen Post Office Directory is Robb Brothers & Co. until 1855, p.58, the confusion is perhaps explained by the fact that Best and Robb were in business together as Best, Robb & Co. 3 Affleck St. Aberdeen (Aberdeen Post Office Directory 1849, p. 130))

SHIPPERS of BRANDY, per the Schooner "GEM,” will have information of her Arrival from Charente at Aberdeen, on application at the Office of the Subscribers, The Vessel is now discharging part of her Cargo at Leith, and may be expected at this Port in a few days. The "GEM" is open for Charter Sunderland, to which Port it is intended to despatch her on landing her Cargo here. JAs. BLACK & CO.. Produce Brokers, 33. King Street. Aberdeen, 6th Feb., 1855.
