About MeThis beautiful engraved glass goblet, decorated with a portrait of the ship WALTER HOOD and the words, 'Hugh Sproat Commander, May 1853' was almost certainly presented to the captain as he took command of this newly built ship for the Aberdeen White Star Line and sailed her successfully to China and Australia.

The glass was a family heirloom that had passed down through several generations of the donor's family. The donor recognised the historical interest in the piece and wanted to see it returned to its spiritual home in Aberdeen, where the original ship was built and owned.
