About MeGrey moulded face mask with original box and instruction leaflet.

The mask has two protruding circular holes (one either side) which are fitted with white dust filters. The elastic for the head fitting wraps around these and are attached at the back to a thin plastic headband. the handband is elliptical and shaped to fit around the head and over the crown.

The box is rectangular, printed cardboard with top opening. Illustrated with a photograph of a woman wearing a mask with slightly different fittings, and company logos.

The instruction leaflet is a small stapled booklet with 36 pages containing instructions in 12 languages.

Dust was recognised as a health problem for Aberdeen granite workers in the late 19th century. The fine granite dust damaged the lungs of masons, particularly those doing close work in monumental yards and with pneumatic tools. The lung damage made them vulnerable to common lung diseases and shortened the lives of some.

It took a long time for attitudes towards health and safety equipment amongst both masons and employers to change and personal protective eqipment like this became standard.
