About MeThese samples of polished granite represent the varieties of granite being worked in Aberdeen's granite yards at the turn of the century. The colours are familiar but there are subtle differences between each sample. Research is ongoing to identify the probable source of each one.Art Gallery and Industrial Museum committee requested these samples in 1898 because they were keen to represent contemporary industry and encourage industrial excellence. The samples mark the first steps in a relationship which would later see the donation of the turned and polished granite columns in the centre court of the Gallery.
