The bulk sugar carrier, Sugar Importer, was yard Number: 847 from Hall Russell’s shipyard.

The ship was launched by Mrs F. H. Tate, wife of a director of Silvertown Services Shipping Ltd. (part of Tate & Lyle) on the 5th May 1955.

Sugar Importer had accommodation for 40 persons, and her regular route was West Indies to London and although sold and renamed several times, the ship continued working until the 1980s.
