About MeThis coin in a leather pouch was given to James McBey by his wife Marguerite on 23rd December 1957 (his birthday). It bears the image of Christ standing on a footstool and crowning the Emperor of Byzantium Romanus IV Diogenes & his wife, Eudocia Macrembolitissa, as Emporor and Emporess of Byzantium. Romanus IV married Eudocia, who was the widow of the emperor Constantine X Ducas, in 1068 and this coin must date 1068–1071 when Romanus IV was blinded and exiled to the island of Prote in the Sea of Marmara, where he died.
More About Me
Coins like this would be made with a metal stamp and a hammer, over a 'blank' circle of precious metal.
