About MeDuring their first summer together in Britain James and Marguerite visited James McBey's birthplace, Newburgh, where this study of Marguerite sitting on the rocks overlooking the sea was painted. James wrote to her of Newburgh; "There is a strange fascination about the place, in spite of its melancholy (at least it is melancholy to me, but this may be on account of its associations). There certainly is a peace which one might search the world for and not get."
