About MeThe painting represents a view of St Machar's Cathedral in Old Aberdeen painted from Seaton park. Cassie was considered a maritime painter but he also painted landscapes, often still with some water element, such as here the River Don and the coast on the horizon.

Cassie painted this landscape one year before leaving Aberdeen, the city where he spent most of his career, to move to Edinburgh where he later became part of the Royal Scottish Academy. He worked well in watercolour and here the nuances of blue and green is delicately executed.
