About MeThis limited edition book (246/300) editbed by Ian Hamilton Finlay is part of an archive that belonged to Joyce Laing OBE. Ian Hamilton Finlay was a personal friend of Laing. She writes in a note that accompanies the book, "All the Pittenweem boats had tallies for the landing of the fish[.] I would collect these and send them to Ian[.] N.B. Ian's reproduction of each name was so accurate [that] it included printing slips eg Good Design." The "Good Design" to which Laing refers is one of the vessels commemorated in the book. As she points out, the catch tally (i.e. the printed slips that identify the vessel's catch on the quay) is reproduced to include the original typeface and even printing defects such as smudges and patchy ink. The book devotes a page to the name of each vessel that landed at Pittenweem and has a cover illustration by Margot Sandeman.http://www.ianhamiltonfinlay.com/1995.html
