About MeOn 25th March 1918, McBey was in Jericho. Weather continued to hamper his work He wrote, "Pouring when we woke in the morning, but bivvy had kept out water wonderfully. Watched sky anxiously, but not much sign of clearing. About 9.30 am started to go to Jordan bridge, and ploughed through mud for 4 miles. At last reached bridge, blown up and apparently burnt ....began to sketch broken bridge at 2.15 pm." The rain evidently persisted to the next day as the sky in this drawing is spattered with drops of rain.
More About Me
This painted 'snapshot' of Jordan Bridge unintentionally recorded the weather conditions at the time, as raindrops are spattered across the top of the painting.
