About MeEmbroidered picture of a charming rural scene where a woman fishing is pulling a fish out of the river. Many idealised images were derived from the works of the decorative painter Angelica Kauffman, who worked in Britain from 1766 to 1781. Anglers sometimes represented Water in allegories of the Four Elements (earth, air, fire and water) so it may be possible that this picture was originally stitched as one of a group of four.
Worked in satin stitch on a silk ground.
