About MeMcBey painted formal portraits of the main protagonists of the Egyptian Campaign - General Allenby, commander of the Britsh forces, Emir Sherif Feisel, commander of the Arab Army and T.E. Lawrence. This watercolour is a preliminary study for the oil painting of Emir Feisal which is in the Imperial War Museum, London.
The artist told an amusing anecdote about the sitting. Emir Feisal sat steadily in the morning but after lunch he was positioned in a different chair and fidgeted continually. At the end of the sitting he rose angrily, throwing across the room a door knob which had been left on the chair.
