About MeJames Duthie was master of the Aberdeen built clipper Abergeldie in the early 1870's. Built for the trade to Australia the Abergeldie was known for its speed, on its maiden voyage from Aberdeen to London it beat another well known Aberdeen built clipper, Centurion.

The sextant was a vital aid to navigation for mariners on their voyages and used to help plot their position by sighting the sun or stars at a given time in conjunction with tables and charts carried aboard their vessels. This sextant was used by Capt James Duthie whilst master of the Abergeldie.
