About MePaul Nash was born London in 1899. He was educated at St. Paul's School and the Slade School of Art, where he met Stanley Spencer, Mark Gertler, William Roberts and C.R.W. Nevinson. After the First World War Nash experimented with surrealism and abstract art. This lithograph depicts Nash's impression of Dymchurch in Kent and is typical of Nash's interest in the rural landscapes that were familiar to him. There is a strong sense of distortion of the landscape which lends it a slightly alien or nightmarish quality.
More About Me
Nash’s coastline is likely influenced by his time spent in France on the frontline during WW1. He later went on to teach at the Royal College of Art, where Eric Ravilious was his student.
