About MeThis is a particularly fine and rare example of Middleton, Rettie and Sons makers' skills in gold. The foliate engraving is of the highest quality and shows a very Victorian flare. The fact that this example is in gold is unusual and rarely seen in any form of Aberdeen jewellery work. The engraved marks (rather than stamped) is so far only recorded to this piece and suggests that it was a special commission and the 'Ft. Aberdeen' would appear to stand for 'fecit' commonly seen to commissioned and later arts and crafts wares. Although this appears an early use of this term, it has comparables in Perth, with David MacGregor, and other Scottish makers.More About Me
An exceptional example of local Aberdonian gold work, beautifully engraved. This is a rare and unusual piece by Middleton Rettie & Sons..
