About MeBlack enamelled metal floral mourning brooch.Mourning was big business during the Victorian period and all levels of society and incomes were catered for. Black enamelled metal moulded into ornate shapes that mimicked jet were a popular, cheap alternative to the more expensive versions in jet or bog oak.
More About Me
Victorian mourning etiquette dictated that the only jewellery worn should be made of jet or this cheaper metal equivalent, which was sometimes combined with the woven hair of the deceased!
