About MeLong black French jet beaded necklace.Although France had deposits of jet there was not enough to meet the demands of fashion in the 19th century. The French therefore produced a black glass known as French jet, which was mass produced and very cheep. In England black glass imitations were also made but were called Vauxhall glass. This type of glass has a slight reddish tinge when viewed at certain angles to the light. One of the great advantages of French jet was that it could be made into very tiny beads, which were used, for dress trimmings.
