About MeAnimals are a recurring theme in Henry Coombes’s work. He incorporates characteristic materials - wood, acrylic resin, plaster and metal - into a highly metaphorical sculptural language that fuses real and symbolic energy. Though perfectly positioned, the balance of the man riding a bird seems precarious – as if caught for a moment – which gives the sculpture a distinct sense of impermanence. Taking inspiration from kinetic art, the spread-wings posture of the bird, appearing to be taking flight, evokes perception of motion and movement. The fragile and limbless man recalls the classical sculpture which often comes to the modern world broken and fragmented by the ravages of time.More About Me
