About MeA substantial Fijian sali club with incised decoration to both sides of the blade. Although this sali club is of a typical Fijian form the carving to the blade has Samoan/Tongan elements to it including rows of triangular design and panels of alternating horizontal and vertical linear design. Another feature of this piece is the serrated blade edge making this a formidable bone crushing weapon. Along the edge of the blade are a series of holes that would have housed decorative elements. The deep reddish brown patina would date this piece to the 19th century.James Cromar Watt
