Said base unscrews to reveal a cavity, most likely for gun powder given the green powder residue inside.
The top has an externally threaded tube with a nut at the bottom which sits within a recess.
The exterior has a crudely soldered "fin" on the left hand side.
The exterior also has been engraved with a flower design (hence trench art)
