Olive drab green.
Attributed to the North Eastern division and marked as such on the front brim which has "NORTH EASTERN" in red capital letters on a gold background with a red border.
Above this is the National Fire Service logo - "NFS" on a dimpled background. It sits in the middle of a seven pointed cross hatch design star and below a King George V Crown. These elements are on a red circular background with the star and crown being gold, above the crown black and the "NFS" lettering red with a gold border.
To the sides of the helmet are the tops of metal studs which hold the chin strap ends below (each slightly off centre).
At the very top, a black screw head is present and is used to hold a head cushion which residues at the top of the inside.
Underneath the helmet has a thick, braided khaki chin strap with brass adjustment buckle and free brass strap end loops which move with the wearer.
To the front right (below the NORTH EASTERN logo on the brim) is the number "778281" and "G.A. MIDDLETON // ABOYNE" in black pen.
In the centre of the underneath is a black coated canvas or fabric head cradle, adjustable via black shoelace style cord and held away from the helmets edge with coated foam sections (eight in total).
There is a cross shaped coated foam head cushion below this cradle which sits upon a final cross shaped support for the entire underneath section. The rear of this support cross is engraved with "7 // BMB // I // 1940".
