About MeNational Fire Service firemen tunic.

Black wool fabric, double breasted with 12 chrome buttons down the front, each embossed "NFS". The buttons are marked “MCRTON & CROWDR L // BIRMINGHAM" on the rear.

A further single button is found on each shoulder lapel and two on the rear in line with where the belt would wrap round (lacquered belt stays either side).

At neck, two further lacquered metal stays pull the collar together on to a pair of lacquered metal loops.

The interior, bottom right of the tunic has a fabric label which reads; "TUNIC, FIREMEN, D.B. // F.S. 6. // Contract No.6/Clc/25649/1. // ------- // Size No. 10 // Height 5ft. 7ins. to 5ft. 8ins // Breast 38 ins // Waist 34ins // ------- // J. Compton, Sons & Webb, Ltd., // London // 1958". There is also a Broad Arrow mark and blue pen annotations which are hard to make out but read "24 120", "38" and "8".
