Film was one of the biggest influences on fashion at this time. Women wanted to copy the looks and clothes of the glamorous stars they saw on screen. As a result the colour of clothes changed from the more delicate shades of the Edwardian period to something far more dramatic. The monochrome look was influenced by the popularity of black and white movies.
