About MeBaird painted no more than thirty-five canvases within his short artistic career. He spent most of his life in Montrose and the topography of the town repeatedly formed the subject of his pictures.Baird draws the staccato geometry of Montrose like some early Italian Renaissance artist painting San Gimignano. The clouds overhead are reminiscent of the prominent clouds that feature in the landscape paintings of the surrealist artist John Armstrong and indeed there is also the same stillness and other-worldly quality here that firmly links Baird to the surrealist tradition.
