About MeChristopher Norton was an engraver. Trained at St Martin's Lane Aacademy, he was in Rome by 1760 where he became the partner of the Scottish collector and art dealer James Byres. This portrait of Norton as a young man may have been commissioned from Dance by Byres as it appears in the 1790 inventory of Byres' house in Rome. Norton later married Byres' niece. He died in 1799.More About Me
