About MeLlittle has changed in the 150 years since James Cassie painted this tranquil scene of an ancient ruined castle on its distinctive rocky promontory in Kindardineshire. From the steep rocky slope in the foreground, covered with minutely detailed, jewel-like flowers, grasses and stones, we are led into the picture, as if we too were taking the same walk as Cassie; past the seagulls scavenging for food in the rock pools, past the shepherd and his companion, up the slope and on to the castle, the central focus of the painting. Above all this light wispy clouds waft across a pale blue summer sky.
