About MeAlthough born in Inverurie, in the late 1820s James Cassie's family moved to Aberdeen where Cassie was taken on as a pupil by James Giles (1807-1870). Giles' meticulous observations of nature and preference for bright, clear colours, had a marked effect on the younger man's art. This is an unspoilt view of the tiny fishing hamlet of Cove on the southern outskirts of the city of Aberdeen, with cows grazing and two women providing a focal point in the centre of the composition. Beyond the dramatic cliffs to the left can be seen the glistening sea, the clear blue broken by the crests of small waves hitting rocks.
