About MeThe set of brass scales with its wooden box belonged to Alexander Forsyth. He used the scales to weigh ingredients to make a detonating powder for his firearms. In 1805 Alexander created the first percussion ignition for firearms which revolutionised gun technology by using a highly combustible chemical compound called fulminate. This burns more rapidly than gunpowder when struck with force.
