About MeA targe is a shield carried by a Highland fighting man from the 17th Century. They are round shields and although some may have been made from steel, most are wooden.

This shield is probably made of thin boards of oak or fir. The front is covered with cowhide with designs tooled upon it, whilst the back appears to be of deerskin. The bold design of roundels is emphasised by using a large number of brass-headed studs. Here, however, we have the added refinement of broad arrow or delta-shaped brass plates echoing the basic circular shape, filling "empty" spaces, and directing the eye back into the centre of the targe.

The central boss can be unscrewed and might have been used for drinking.
